On the eastern side of Pitalito, in the cordillera, you’ll find Peñas Blancas, a cliff and mountainous formation of white colour that spans other surrounding municipalities. It is a diverse and rich area with abundant water sources, where most of the coffee producers associated with this brand are located.
The region has a humid climate with temperatures ranging from 18ºC to 23ºC throughout the year, combined with rich volcanic soils — all ideal conditions for coffee production.
The most common varieties found here are Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo, though Pink Bourbon, Bourbon, and Gesha are also grown in smaller volumes.
Caravela has been working alongside coffee producers in this area since 2004. When Peñas Blancas began, it started with 30 producers, a number that has grown significantly since.
